Renewable Energy Career and Business Open House

Wind farm construction is a very specialized process, but it requires common products and services, many of which can be found locally.

To learn more about the construction process and opportunities for renewable energy careers in Crawford County, Honey Creek Wind is partnering with the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce to host a special Renewable Energy Career and Business Open House on Wednesday October 12, 2022 for local workers, businesses, and contractors to learn more about what to expect and opportunities to engage with these types of projects.

Apex Clean Energy typically selects a Balance of Plant (BOP) contractor to build the project, and this contractor will be responsible for hiring individuals and subcontractors to complete the project. Many of these entities could be local. By attending this event and signing up with Apex Clean Energy's Local Vendor Program, you can ensure that your contact information is shared with the BOP contractor before they select their subcontractors and crews.

The typical construction duration for a wind farm is approximately nine months from the start of construction to the commercial operation date. The work consists of upgrading and building new stone roads, forming and pouring large concrete foundations, installing underground electrical systems and overhead high voltage transmission lines, constructing a project specific substation, erecting the wind turbine tower and generator, and completing the mechanical and electrical connections. In addition to specific construction services, local equipment suppliers, hotels, restaurants, and gas stations may see an influx of customers during construction. (visit our Building a Wind Farm page for a list of specific jobs and services).
